The Non Travellin’ Band return after their debut LP released earlier this year to offer up “Stoned on the Christ,” a compilation of demos recorded between 2007 and 2016. The smoky psychedelic mood reigns supreme as these songs were either sparsely recorded (with two guitars and a single microphone), or were layered as densely as possible in order to erect a mind-bending wall of sound. You’ll hear radically different versions of tunes from “Rest in Peace, Hippie” as well as a number of good ideas that the band never got through their hazy intentions of doing a proper recording. From the soft psych-folk strums of “Mother Mary Jane,” to the fuzzed out stomp of “Paris Greene and Morphine,” to the heavy synth-laden groove of “A Midnight Ride,” the Non Travellin’ Band were never one to be easily pinned down to a single style. Wouldn’t you know it that even Julian Lynch of Real Estate shows up to contribute a little bit of drums here as well. Let it be forever known that after “Stoned on the Christ” there is officially no more material that can beat out of the corpse of the Non Travellin’ Band so it's high time to let these hippies rest. Glory be. Amen.
